Victory for the Liquigas team

After a long series of placings, the Liquigas team achieves its first victory of the season.
Thanks to Filippo Pozzato, who marked up the twenty-ninth victory of his career when he won the Tour du Haut Var in France and gained the first jersey for Liquigas.

After the 192-kilometre race which started and ended at Drauguignan, the 25-year-old cyclist, who comes from the Veneto region but is Monégasque by adoption, sprinted close to Australia's Simon Gerrans and Ricardo Serrano from Spain. Pozzato was an authoritative pacemaker for the group: ten cyclists gained the advantage with only 10 kilometers to go until the finishing line.

«The team won» Pippo declared. «We were always the main players, from the first to the last kilometer, and in the final sprint I was expertly guided by Kuchynski. The credit goes to my team mates. Liquigas deserved to break the ice in the last races: this victory is a real boost for our confidence...»Sports manager Dario Mariuzzo underscored «the great performance by Pozzato» but also confirmed the extraordinary performance of the entire team.

Pozzato will be racing again next weekend in Belgium: the Omloop Het Volk Saturday, and the Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne Sunday.
