'Vanni goes arty': Vanni's survey of the relationship between design and art
As Andrea Branzi, a designer and a great Italian design theorist says: 'I believe design is evolving towards an independent, creative role that is not committed to responding to the demands of industry but, if anything, it's industry that has to follow in the footsteps of design creativity. Design is no longer an activity that solves problems, but an activity that is constantly opening them up'. Guido Molinari, art critic, states that 'the dividing line between contemporary art and design is very fine indeed'.
The video interviews for the project 'Vanni goes arty' are at www.vanniocchiali.com. When does art inspire design? Can good artists also be good designers? Is design evolving as a creative force independent of the industrial process? These are the questions that are answered by Branzi and Molinari along with other experts, journalists, art and design critics, opening up an in-depth study of the links between these two equally inventive activities, to investigate the points of contact and the nature of their common source of creativity.
The 'VANNI goes arty' project was launched at Artissima14, the contemporary art fair held in Turin from 9 to 11 November 2007, of which Vanni has been an associated partner for the past two years.
