
Rem Eyewear Establishes Asian Foothold
American eyewear company REM, announced the opening of its showroom and customer service center in the Kowloon Bay section of Hong Kong, from where the supplier of fashion frames and sunglasses will serve the southern and eastern Asian region with its portfolio of brands that include Converse, John Varvatos and Cosmopolitan, among others.
'Establishing this beachhead in Hong Kong is an important step in our globalization strategy,'explained Mike Hundert, REM President and CEO. 'Our brands are important in that part of theworld. And that part of the world is important to us. Therefore, a commitment to betterunderstand the uniqueness of the Asian marketplace and to better serve customers there is vitalto fulfill our long-term global objectives.'
Industry veteran Daniel Lai, named earlier this year to direct REM's efforts in the region, willmanage the company's Hong Kong headquarters. 'Launching REM Asia is yet another in a rapidset of tipping points for our growing company,' said Hundert. The Hong Kong opening follows onthe heels of launching REM Australia earlier this summer in partnership with Australia's GeneralOptical.
REM, with worldwide headquarters in Sun Valley, California, is a 54-year-old optical company,which is owned by Hundert and his sister Donna Gindy. REM is operated by a deep team ofindustry veterans, including its Executive Vice President Steve Horowitz and Creative DirectorBlake Kuwahara.
