Record auction of John Lennon's glasses
A pair of sunglasses that belonged to John Lennon could fetch 1.5 million euros. The souvenir is in an auction on a website specializing in objects belonging to pop stars. The round glasses with gold frames were a gift to the musician's interpreter, Junishi Yore, at the end of the Beatles' tour in Japan.
In a traditional sign of respect for the dead, Yore removed the lenses when Lennon died. The Beatles had received death threats from a group of religious fanatics because of their concert at the Budokan holy place. While they were shut inside the Hilton Hotel in Tokyo, Lennon made friends with his interpreter. After the group's last concert, in line with the Japanese custom, the two exchanged gifts. Yore gave Lennon two copper cups in exchange for the glasses. Lennon fans can bid for the glasses online on "991.com" until the end of the month.
