New 'Science of Compliance'
A guide for contact lens specialists to help their patients and identify incorrect contact lens usage and maintenance, and a program that provides useful suggestions about maintaining eye health.A new research carried out in seven European countries by Dr. Philip Morgan - Eurolens Director of Research at the University of Manchester - has revealed the incorrect habits and actions that often lead to eye infections in contact lens wearers.
Supported by Bausch & Lomb and based on studies by Dr. Morgan, the 'Science of Compliance' guide is a useful tool for helping contact lens specialists to gain a better understanding of how patients look after their contact lenses. It also provides suggestions on the methods to optimize their use and maintenance.
For this purpose, Dr. Morgan created a model of a 'stoplight' which allows opticians to check consumer behavior easily in their outlets. There are fourteen key parameters, such as attention to basic hygiene or the use of suitable solutions.
The stoplight model visually measures the level at which these parameters are not observed and provides a two-category classification of patient behavior: 'green' means they comply with the standards indicated by contact lens specialists - and 'red' means that they do not comply.
After patient behavior patterns are identified, Bausch & Lomb helps contact lens specialists to orientate patients toward adopting the correct methods through recommendations in the EYEGIENE Program.
Bausch & Lomb's EYEGIENE Program provides simple instructions on detachable sheets that opticians can distribute to their patients as a reminder.
With 'Science of Compliance' and the EYEGIENE Program, Bausch & Lomb offers all opticians useful tools for establishing a relationship of trust with their patients.
