After winning the Tour du Haut Var, with a repeat performance last Saturday at the Omloop Het Volk, 25 year-old Filippo Pozzato has already got his sights set on the Tyrrhenian-Adriatic, starting Wednesday 14 March. Filippo PozzatoThe first place achieved on Saturday at the Het Volk is even more significant than the one in France. Pozzato beat Spain's Juan Antonio Flecha and the former world champion Tom Boonen, who was at home, and particularly keen to take the lead in front of a well-disposed audience.

Thus, Pozzato reaches a total of 30 victories in his career. In the gripping, final stages, Pippo managed to close his group's gap: he anticipated the sprint, at the same time catching up with, and shooting past the two leaders. This powerful and freethinking feat, performed 400 meters from the finishing line consequently enabled Pozzato to gain a slight lead over Flecha and Boonen.

This test of strength, combined with the level headedness shown at the end of the exhausting 200 kilometer race, reassure Liquigas' captain: «This victory confirms my good form. Once again the team's contribution was decisive, backing me with confidence, showing me great trust. After Het Volk and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, I intend to rest for a few days until the Tyrrhenian-Adriatic. In the two seas race I am aiming for a stage win. And if I find I myself in the position where I have to fight for the final victory, I might just consider it... But my first, great ambition for 2007 is the Milan-Sanremo».
