So, the 'Killer' wins his third success of the season for Liquigas.Di Luca gained an advantage with eight other racers (including teammates Bertagnolli and Noè) on the toughest part of the climb, which leads to the Turin sanctuary. Then, after a further selection, in tandem with Soler, he managed to strengthen his marginal lead up to the decisive sprint, which saw him take a clear first place.
«I knew I had a good chance of winning, but, at times like these, turning good intentions into concrete action is always difficult» comments Di Luca. «Now I am going to take part in the Tirreno-Adriatico race where I hope to win a stage». In reply to those who ask him if he is also thinking about the Milano-Sanremo race, Di Luca answers without hesitation: «At Sanremo, all of us from Liquigas will be working for Pozzato».
The Killer is looking further ahead: «I'll be racing in the Tour of the Basque countries thinking of Amstel, Freccia and Liege». Then the 'Giro d'Italia', which stands firm in Di Luca's plans, despite the awareness that «if Basso is as strong as he was in 2006, all the others will only contend for second place».
