Sover grows by 24%
Sover, one of Italy’s leading producers of vision and sun eyewear with the 1A Classe Alviero Martini, MCS and Laura Biagiotti labels and the house brand of the same name, closed 2010 with 24 percent growth in billings and is looking optimistically at the future as it prepares for Mido, the sector’s most important international exhibition scheduled in Milan March 4 through 6.
The very positive results for the Belluno-based company headed by the Cannicci family are an indication of market recovery and, in general, the need to replace the word “crisis” with “competitiveness”, the inseparable mix of expertise, creativity and innovation that is the basis of enduring success.
And this is certainly Sover’s recipe given that its eyewear collections have captivated both Italian and foreign markets, especially those of East Europe: in Romania, with the wholly-owned Sover Optica Shop chain, and joint ventures in Bucharest, Prague and Moscow. In the Russian capital, the company distributes its own brands while offering the same distribution channels to prestigious Italian brands, which rely on it to guarantee their presence in an undoubtedly complex area.
It was precisely these areas that had the biggest recovery, with the 2009 downturn being followed by two-figure percentage increases in Russia. And if the “consumption” of eyewear in Europe has become stable, countries in the Far East are showing strong interest in the fashion-oriented eyewear proposed by Sover, which can offer personalized lines adapted to suit typical Asian face shapes.
“The 2010 results” commented Sover managing director Stefano Cannicci “confirm that our group has made good strategic choices. Choices that include the careful composition of products, materials and excellent workmanship, as well as potential-based commercial development for guaranteeing impeccable service. But above all, the ability to produce eyewear collections that faithfully reflect the soul of the brands entrusted to us”.
His words were echoed by vice president Vittorio Cannicci, who announced “a Mido edition that will see the official debut of eyewear by MCS, the brand that is captivating the international market thanks to its ability to express unconventional fashion. After the Silmo exhibition in Paris last September, it will also be the first time for the Laura Biagiotti collections that are already being hugely successful on the international scene” .
