Persol Award presented at 29th Turin Film Festival

The sixth Persol Award for the best documentary in the Italiana.doc competition was presented Saturday, December 3, 2011, at the 29th Turin Film Festival to “Orogenesis” by Caldwell Lever.

For the sixth year running, the strong and unchanging bond with the world of cinema and the partnership between Persol and the Turin Film Festival was interpreted at the 29th edition November 25 through December 3, 2011.

Persol awards the best Italian documentary in Italiana.doc, the festival section devoted to promoting and fostering debate in the form of an Italian documentary on film and video.
Persol, now more than ever an icon of timeless fascination and elegance, is the protagonist and indisputable representative of a tradition of quality and authentic Made in Italy style that began in Turin in 1917.

Françoise Lebrun (France), Sirkka Möller (Germany) and Eugenio Renzi (Italy) were the members of the international jury that assigned the award. This was the reason given by the jury:
“We wanted to award a new and courageous idea. The legendary birth of the Italic civilization is an unusual subject for a documentary – and a schoolbook classic – but “Orogenesis” is impressive because of its tone that is both ironic and serious. It is history retold in random but revealing fragments in an intelligent play of archaistic and anachronistic images and words. A magnificent embodiment of playful insolence”.
