Nico-design, choices that favor research and quality
“We are catching our breath after a couple of tough years. The attendance at MIDO is comforting and I hope that the new contacts we have made will be confirmed in the next few days”. Giovanni Vitaloni of Nico-design demonstrated confidence in this edition of the Milan exhibition, also because of his considerable expectations for the immediate future: “For us, 2011” – he added – “will be a time for consolidating international and Italian markets. In Italy in particular our initiatives are aimed at involving major independent opticians, a project we have called T’occhi di design. It concerns days when opticians can meet and get to know the Turin producers of designer eyewear (LA S.r.l. and ourselves) outside the traditional exhibition appointments that remain a fixed point. We will take T’occhi around Italy (we’ve already been to Turin, Milan and Rome) in an attempt to make more personal and proactive contacts with the opticians with whom we wish to collaborate to define sales strategies and the promotion of our creative products”.
Let’s look at the future of eyewear. In your opinion, what are the major opportunities for development?
“However much you talk about it, I am still convinced that attention to design quality is essential. The market is packed with proposals of all levels: I believe that the world economic squeeze will force choices that increasingly favor research and quality”.
Mido is always an unmissable appointment. “And at MIDO we will present the new products in our VANNI and DERAPAGE lines; specifically, at MIDO we will launch the top eyewear in the vision sector, we work all year to present the most innovative models in Milan. If you don’t want to play your cards at MIDO you might as well change your job. MIDO is the highlight of the world eyewear season: it is the international event that spurs you on to bringing out your best in eyewear collections and the way you relate to clients”.
Continuing with new products. What are the main ones you will be presenting here? What will next season’s color be?
“The 2011 season will have very imaginative and colorful eyewear in acetate with patterns created for VANNI in a limited edition, and ultra-comfortable metal and combination frames with two colors or original graphics. Hyper-technological Tornado will be back in colored acetate. And look out for blue, it will be our color of the year: our tribute to the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy”.
What is your favorite eyewear and which one do you consider your top model?
“The limited edition acetates in the FLAME collection by VANNI made exclusively for us continue to give us a lot of satisfaction; this year, there will also be a rimless version in shades of blue in honor of Italians. Tornado by DERAPAGE in acetate is very classy eyewear with great technical boldness, but always easy to wear thanks to the combination of classical and imaginative colors”.
