Hoya RX lens facility flooded in Thailand

Hoya RX lens facility flooded in Thailand

Following last week’s torrential rains, the Hoya Vision Care facilities at Ayutthaya in Thailand were flooded, with water levels reaching 80 cm. Fortunately, no employees were involved in the catastrophe but the buildings will remain closed for at least one month.

In order to cope with this situation, production at the 11 RX lens facilities in Europe has been boosted so that by the end of the week they will be working around the clock seven days a week.

To accelerate the process, new people will be hired for the manufacturing teams and skilled Japanese and Thai operators and engineers will be transferred to Europe from Hoya facilities in Asia.

Machinery partners are preparing to install new equipment and teams of repair and maintenance experts are ready to go into action as soon as the water recedes.

All the facilities for the mass production of lenses and semi-finished products in Asia will continue to operate normally as will all the other facilities for the manufacture of prescription lenses.

In the coming weeks, Hoya will be in a position to continue to supply the vast majority of its products and services, but some delays will be inevitable. Certain specific products will be temporarily unavailable.

In Italy, Hoya is actively communicating with its customers to help them find alternative products and assist them with any requirements they may have.
