Arrival of new Tribrid lenses

PPG Industries, Thai Optical Group and Novacel have announced the international launch of Tribrid lenses. The official presentation of the product was made during a press conference at Silmo.

The material used for Tribrid lenses was developed by using an unparalleled method based on hybrid chemical components that combine elements of the Trivex material with the traditional chemical constituents of high-index lenses. The result is a lens that gives patients a superior mix of performance and benefits – optical clarity (Abbe number 41), comfort and lightness (density 1.23 g/cm), fineness (refractive index 1.6), shock resistance (160 higher than the “drop ball test” promoted by the FDA), and protection (100% of UV rays).

“With the Tribrid material, PPG is pursuing its main objective of developing a material for superior quality lenses that give patients the best advantages currently available on the market”, said Christine Camsuzou, General Manager of PPG Optical Materials. “In this sense, PPG’s strategy began with Trivex material that gives anyone who wears eyeglasses every day sharp vision, lightness, comfort, strength and protection. The new Tribrid material has all these qualities – clarity, lightness, strength and safety – in a high-index lens that is even thinner and perfect for patients with stronger prescriptions.”

“Thanks to the added value brought by Trivex material – sharp vision, strength and lightness – and the creation of Tribrid featuring a high refractive index, we are certain that we are offering more demanding consumers exceptional materials of very high quality for ophthalmic lenses” said Michelle Hsieh, Head of Marketing and Sales, Thai Optical Group.

“Novacel undertook to propose innovative products to its customers and the Tribrid lenses are the latest in a long series of innovations”, confirmed Jenkiz Saillet, Marketing and Sales Director at Novacel. “With this launch, we are continuing on the wave of success achieved with the Trivex material and we are pleased to be the first laboratory in the world to offer our customers Tribrid lenses.”
