A trestment for amblyopia tat will make teens happy
A new study from India shows that amblyopia (commonly known as lazy eye) can be corrected in pre-teens and teenagers by a regimen that includes playing several hours of video games.
At the recent annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Somen Ghosh reported on the results from his study, which involved 100 participants between 10 and 18 years of age. The children were divided into 4 groups. All the participants followed a basic treatment plan that required them to wear eyeglasses that blocked the stronger eye for at least 2 hours a day. Group 1 followed only the basic plan, whereas the other groups received additional treatments.
Group 2 took a supplement that contained micronutrients;
Group 3 played at least one hour of video games daily using only the weaker eye;
Group 4 took the supplement citicoline.
Participants in groups 3 and 4 achieved the most significant vision gains. Age was also a factor. Children under age 14 showed more improvement than those who were older.
