Silhouette wins iF Design Award
The charm of rimless frames and the idea of seeing without limits have spread throughout the world and have received the new international iF Product Design Award. The award went to the Dreamwings model (from the SUN 2010 collection) and the Zenlight one for the “Leisure and Lifestyle” category.
Since 1953, the iF Product Design Award – which has 16 categories – has been considered to be a guarantee of excellent design and an indicator of future trends.
The panel, whose members are international experts such as Carlo Colombo and Peter Thonet, assessed eleven criteria for granting the iF Product Design Award: design quality, production process, material selection, innovation, eco-sustainability, functionality, ergonomics, visualization, safety, brand value and branding, universal design.
Almost 1,000 companies and brands from 39 countries took part in the competition. From March through August 2010, all the winners can be seen at the iF Product Design Award exhibition in Hanover and on the International Forum Design website (www.ifdesign.de). Due for publication in spring 2010, an annual book about the iF Product Design Award will comprise all the winners of the award, including the Silhouette models Dreamwings and Zenlight.
Dreamwings, the Silhouette SUN 2010 model that won the award, embellishes the lenses with a light, harmonious design in gray, apricot and earth, the “colors of victory”. The graciously harmonious and timelessly elegant decorative elements make Dreamwings”the must-have sunglasses of the 2010 season.
Inspired by the Zen discipline, the Silhouette’s winning vision model Zenlight offers maximum comfort, wellbeing and emotions, without sacrificing limitless and totally free vision. Made in SPX, a flexible, strong and very lightweight synthetic material, the award went to the Golden Light version, an elegant combination of the purity of white with the richness of gold.
