"Italian Fashion Portal" at the starting line

Palazzo Marino in Milan was the location for today’s presentation of the Italian Fashion Portal project set up by Milan City Council in collaboration with the Luna Research Center (CRL) and the Interuniversity Consortium (CILEA), with the aim of recovering and presenting Italian fashion’s historical heritage to the world and building a bridge between past and new generations.

The project is oriented toward representing Made in Italy fashion through its history, current major works and future development. In short, a huge container for the entire Fashion System aimed at promoting and safeguarding a heritage that, until now, has not been available for consultation, and at turning it into an active service for all sector operators and for training.

The “Italian Fashion Portal” is part of Milan City Council’s Flagship Project, the “Fashion Institute of Milan”, and comprises various subprojects with a general strategic objective. The ultimate aim is to activate all Made in Italy fashion functions dedicated to top-level training, research, documentation, promotion, protection and communication located in a building in the center of Milan’s Fashion City (the Garibaldi-Repubblica area).

The portal will have 3 main sections that can be visited in different ways depending on the type of use:
1) History
2) Real Time
3) Trend

“Digitalizing and making Italian fashion’s creative heritage available to many operators in a sector of which Milan is the recognized capital”, Luigi Rossi Bernardi, Councilor for Research, Innovation and Human Capital, explained during this morning’s meeting, “is an initiative undertaken by Milan City Council to safeguard the archives and documents that represent the historical memory of the Italian Fashion System”.

“But it isn’t just an historical memory!” – added Fashion, Design and Events councilor, Giovanni Terzi – “ For the Administration, creating a digital circuit means making a significant approach to a wider catchment of users, operators, the public and enthusiasts”.

“The Fashion Portal” – concluded Andrea Mascaretti, Councilor for City Areas and Zone Committees – “will be an innovative tool in support of a fashion sector that is important for the Italian economy. It will also be a reference point for operators and young talents attracted by the opportunities offered by our city, which has been reconfirmed as the national and international leader of the sector.”
