
Limited edition for Lacoste
In 1980, the golden era of tennis, Lacoste expanded its range of products with the launch of its first eyewear. Inspired by the brand’s origins, the first pair of sunglasses, “la lunette Lacoste”, had aviator-style frames and they were called “101”. Lacoste 101 was distinctive because of the exceptional quality of the materials and the exclusive style, which perfectly interpreted the brand’s sporty elegance and made it an instant bestseller both on and off the court, in the same way that the 1212 polo shirt is the icon of the Lacoste brand.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 101, Lacoste has launched a limited edition of 1,000 pairs.
Just like 30 years ago, model 101 is presented to today’s public as a fascinating and modern icon. “The design is extremely simple, natural, sober and universal”, explained Christophe Pillet, design director of Lacoste eyewear. “It has the same ingredients or, if you prefer, the same DNA as the 1212 polo shirt. What makes these products special and genuine objects of desire, is the fact that they are made for a specific function and not simply to pay tribute to trends or fashions. This is the reason that they are and will always be everlasting and contemporary”.
101 has the classical double bridge, a distinctive feature of the aviator models. What makes this model different is the green enamel inside the bar across the nose piece, the perfect interpretation of the two Lacoste worlds: sport and elegance. “Model 101 is very well made, well proportioned, lightweight and generous but not oversize. At the time of its debut it was sold with the best sun lenses on the market” – Pillet declared. “We asked our creative team to recreate the model exactly as it was. The only modification we allowed was the improvement in the quality of the logo engraved on the temples. The rest is exactly the same as it was and how it must be”.
A serial number is engraved inside the right temple of this limited edition version of model 101 to indicate its position among the 1,000 pairs produced. With this exclusive signature, collectors will be the proud and privileged owners of an important chapter in the history of Lacoste.
The packaging of the 101 limited edition reflects Lacoste’s tradition of sporty elegance and is itself an exclusive work of design. The white box protects its precious contents and is also the ideal background for enhancing the eyewear. The soft rubber pouch in green has harmonious rounded edges and is meticulously finished. The 101 logo is engraved on the pouch and feels soft and sporty to the touch. Model 101 comes complete with an exclusive white cleaning cloth, a special leaflet with the story and details of the design, and an Official Certificate with the serial number, which guarantees that the eyewear is part of the limited edition.
