FIAMP: Giorgio Cannara new president

FIAMP: Giorgio Cannara new president

The General Council of the Italian Federation of Fashion and Personal Accessories (FIAMP), yesterday appointed its new president for the next two years. Giorgio Cannara, president of the Associazione Pellettieri Italiani, takes over from Rossano Soldini; Cirillo Marcolin of Anfao was appointed vice president.

A Confindustria federation set up December 2004, which includes the AIMPES (leather and leather substitute manufacturing), ANCI (footwear), ANFAO (eyewear), FEDERORAFI (goldsmiths-jewelry) and UNIC (tanners) associations, FIAMP is extremely important on the industrial scene: over 33,000 companies employ a total of about 262,000 people, exports (2007) totaled 21,087 million euros with a positive trading balance of 7,870 million euros.

The challenge that awaits Cannara in the coming months will not be easy: the current unfavorable economic situation in Italy and abroad obviously also involves the manufacturing segments under the FIAMP umbrella. On the up side, Made-in-Italy entrepreneurs have the potential and ability to respond with the necessary corporate reorganization aimed at research and development, but without forgetting the creativity and professionalism that characterize the philosophy of Made-in-Italy and make it unique and famous throughout the world.

Cannara indicated that one of FIAMP’s immediate priorities will be the defense of Made in Italy. The work of raising the awareness of the political institutions in Italy and the rest of Europe will continue with the mandatory application of labels of origin on certain products, including FIAMP’s product types.
