Arab Emirates destroys counterfeit eyewear

A definitive decision was made Monday by the emirate of Sharjah regarding the counterfeit eyeglasses that were intercepted at local distributor China Optical Center. The final verdict was that the 143,700 counterfeit Ray-Bans were to be destroyed.

The eyewear distributor was also fined 4,000 dollars and, in accordance with the United Arab Emirates’ Trademark laws, if it is involved in any further attempts to sell counterfeit products, its business will be closed for up to 6 months.

Counterfeiting considerably damages not only producers and retailers of original products, but also copyright owners. It also misleads consumers and can put their health and safety at risk.
