Pharrell Williams guest designer for Moncler Lunettes
Remo Ruffini: "Williams represents the best of everything contemporary, creative and international at the heart of the entire Moncler project Moncler has proposed a collection of timeless eyewear, faithful to the philosophy of a brand that throughout its 60-year history has constructed an aesthetic universe extending beyond the fashions of the moment. Tradition, modernity and technology, these are the elements that inspired the Moncler creative team on the Moncler Lunettes project. An impeccable collection – like the Moncler style that since 1952 has spanned customs, habits and cultures with a garment, the puffer coat, that is capable of changing shape while remaining true to itself. The guest designer for Moncler Lunettes is Pharrell Williams, musician, producer and winner of three Grammy Awards. An integral part of the entire project, the American author, music producer, recording artist and fashion designer has designed a series of sunglasses for men and women and is also the face of the advertising campaign. Moncler president Remo Ruffini insisted on continuing the artistic collaboration with Pharrell Williams because: "He represents the best of everything contemporary, creative and international at the heart of the entire Moncler project and the Moncler Lunettes collection". Featuring Pharrell Williams, Moncler Lunettes sunglasses are part Futurism and part Fifties Style and will be officially presented September 26 at the opening of the new Moncler flagship store at 7 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris, which also coincides with Silmo, the eyewear-dedicated fair in the French capital from September 26 through 29. Made from a single piece of titanium, the frames have been designed to give depth and thickness at the sides and an extremely slim effect for the front. In nylon like the temples, the lenses guarantee maximum flexibility and strength. Because titanium has a very low specific weight, sizes can be generous but also lightweight. Typical of vintage Le Corbusier, the rounded lines of the Fifties are revisited for both men and women in a modern-techno key. The squarer frame for men and women stays true to the retro flavor by enlarging the lenses until the titanium becomes an almost imperceptible line. The unisex model is a play on the oversize wraparound concept, with acetate temples lightly coated in steel. Moncler Lunettes made its debut last March at Mido, the international optics fair in Milan. Designed for urban use but also for the most exclusive high-end venues, the models in the Moncler Lunettes collection are made entirely in Italy. The Moncler Lunettes collection is already available at Moncler boutiques and online stores as well as being distributed to an exclusive network of international opticians. Starting October, the models designed by Pharrell Williams will be distributed to Moncler boutiques, moncler.com, selected multibrand concept stores and to international opticians.
