Cornea: the human body has a new part

The discovery of an extra corneal layer The human body has something new. It's not the result of who knows what kind of genetic mutation, but a recent discovery by researchers at the University of Nottingham who found that there is a new part in our body and specifically in our eyes.   Harminder Dua, the professor who led the research, identified a new layer of the human cornea, the transparent part of the eye. This layer - from now on known as Dua's layer – is the sixth corneal layer and is at the back of the eye.   Dua and his team were able to observe this new layer by injecting air between the corneal layers and observing them under an electronic microscope. Their findings were published at the end of May on the website of the journal, Ophthalmology. It is only 0.015 millimeters thick, but it could be fundamental for simplifying many operations.   In fact, Dua thinks that these new data could improve implants and corneal implants in particular. The professor and his team also believe that the infiltration of liquid in Dua's layer could be the cause of corneal edema.     Source: Huffington Post
