Porsche Design celebrates 40 years of luxury technology

A reinterpretation of model P'8478 without changing Ferdinand Alexander Porsche's design Founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the Porsche Design brand is a symbol of luxury that has always been synonymous with technology-inspired products that are functional, timeless and have a pure, minimalist style. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Porsche Design has reinterpreted a very special and exclusive model that has become a legend, the iconic P'8478 model: the first eyewear by Porsche Design, it was designed in 1978 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and has remained unchanged to this day.   This pilot eyewear of timeless charm has an innovative mechanism for changing the lenses. It was, and still is, revolutionary and guarantees adaptation to different vision needs and light conditions. The moveable bridge is a skillful combination of design, technology and functionality: by simply raising the bridge, the lenses can be changed with extreme ease.   To celebrate this important anniversary, a limited edition of the eyewear has been made in sanded titanium, a technologically-advanced material in matte gray-silver and brown with silver mirrored and shaded lenses – the classic look of the '70s. Another characteristic that makes it unique and incomparable is the laser-engraved "40Y" (for 40 Years), on the bridge.   Initially, the P'8478 was only for male consumers (L and XL sizes) but it is now available also for women in M and S sizes. With four calibers, this eyewear is now a classic that will suit any face.
