Trogamid CX by Degussa at Mido 2005

The High Performance Polymers Business Unit of Degussa will present at Mido in Milan (May 6-9) its new transparent special polyamide Trogamid CX.

Trogamid CX is a crystal-clear, microcrystalline special polyamide that combines the physical properties of amorphous polyamides with the chemical resistance and stress-cracking resistance of crystalline plastics. Because of its unique combination of stiffness, toughness, and high resilience, it offers eyeglass and fashion designers a large variety of design options greatly exceeding those of traditional plastics.

Thus, filigree frames, which formerly could be produced only from titanium alloys, can be made of Trogamid CX. They are very light and flexible and adjust themselves to every individual head shape. Yet they are also stiff enough to permanently hold corrective lenses securely with perfect fit. Their high break resistance, even under extreme deformations and at low temperatures, like those prevailing in winter sports, makes them particularly attractive for children's glasses and sport glasses.

Because of its inherently neutral color, Trogamid CX can be brilliantly colored, particularly for transparent frames. Coating is not necessary for coloring purposes. Variously colored regrind can be treated with a specially developed color batch and used in opaque, dark-colored frames without adversely affecting the frame's physical properties. These polyamide compounds can be modified with a laser-sensitive additive, making it possible to laser-mark frames individually, quickly, and easily.
