Stock-exchange performance: 5 Italian companies among first 11 worldwide
At the Milan Fashion Global Summit, Merrill Lynch Italy illustrated the world classification for luxury item performance on the stock exchange over the last twelve months.
The first 11 positions include five Italian companies: top of the list is Geox with growth of 68.2%; second place goes to Tod's, with +63% in the last year. In fourth place Mariella Burani (+51.7%) and in sixth place Luxottica (+44.7%); finally, in eleventh place is Campari (+25.4%), which is top of the food segment.
Merrill Lynch released other interesting data: the average increase in world share listings for luxury items, for example, is 11 points lower than the Italian result (+23.2% against +34.4%), the data includes the Valentino Fashion Group. Another important indicator is the return on capital employed (Roce): between 2001 and 2004, the Italian companies examined recorded a 12 to 18% increase, whereas French companies did not exceed 13%.
