Results of the Carrera–Sky Off road Team at the Barcelona–Dakar 2005

Matteo Pasquato and Vittorio TabacchiThe Italian pilot Matteo Pasquato visited yesterday morning the Safilo headquarters in Padova (Italy), after having conquered the 8th in his class (Marathon 400) at the Barcelona - Dakar 2005, which ended last Sunday, Jan 16th.

Pasquato raced for the Carrera-Sky Off Road team with a Honda XR 400 R, supplied by Martin Racing from Italy, and his success is really outstanding, specially considering that this was his first participation to this historical and demanding race across Africa. He was one of the few who reached the finish line in Dakar last Sunday: there were 240 pilots at the start and less than half at the end.

For the difficult race Pasquato decided to use the contact lenses produced by Carrera Contact and specifically thought for those who practice. The lenses have thus been tested in an extreme environment and in a situation where seeing well was necessary to be successful. Pasquato also used Raptor Mtx, the first motocross goggle produced by Carrera, which protected the pilot's eyes from the desert sand and wind.

Pasquato also dedicated a special thought to Fabrizio Meoni, another Italian pilot who died in an accident during the race: 'It was terrible. We saw his bike along the track, but we thought he had only fallen, just like many others before him. When they told us that he had died we were astonished. The next day the races were suspended in his memory'.
