I-Style in Usa: figures of the first nine months of 2005

The 2005 January/September period export results of some leading sectors of I-Style in the USA were released by Ice (based on information from the American trade department).

The export of knitwear (-9.8%), footwear (-7.6%) and jewellery (-5.8%) is still at a serious disadvantage compared to the same period in 2004. The low trend of clothes (a lean +1%) shows an excellent performance for shirts (+13.6%) and ties (+9.3%).

The result of leather goods (+4.3%) and furs (+18.8%) is good compared to the same period in 2004.

Perfumes/cosmetics is the most dynamic sector compared to the first nine months of 2004, recording an increase in exports in the USA of over 15 percentage points (+15.5%).

The eyeglass sector in the USA maintains its positive trend started in the second half of 2004. Sunglasses are still the driving sector with more than 264 million dollars of exports, recording an increase by 19.1% compared to January/September 2004. Frames record a small decline of approx. 1.4%.

As for the market shares of Italian eyeglasses in the USA, primary market of reference for this sector, sunglasses reach ca. 33.3%, with an increase of more than two percentage points compared to the same period of 2004, frames are slightly higher than 30%, in line with the 2004 result.
