I-style in Usa: eyewear data January/November 2004

Based on data from the US Department of Trade, Ice has published the January/November 2004 result for frames and sunglasses exports to the Usa.

Although there has been good recovery in American domestic demand, despite the weakness of the dollar against the euro, the two segments under consideration have shown different trends.

Compared to the same period 2003, frames are below par: Italian exports to the United States showed a falloff of almost 5 percentage points, but at 196 million dollars the figure is still higher than that for 2002.

Sunglasses are, however, doing very well and are being confirmed as the sector's driving force. Compared to the same period 2003, American imports of Italian sunglasses in January/November 2004 grew by almost 25%. A gain also in terms of market share, which in 2004 should bring Italy to around 32%, almost 5 points more in the space of two years (2002/2004).
