Fendi celebrates 80 years by opening a new store in New York

For its 80th anniversary, Fendi has opened a new boutique in New York. The Fendi sisters commissioned architect Peter Marino to supervise the restructuring work and to reflect the brand's recent restyling in the new flagship store.

Over 650 square meters at number 677 Fifth Avenue replicate the dualism that has always distinguished the Rome brand: references to past tradition are perfectly inserted in a modern framework. On the façade of the building, calcareous rock is framed in rust-colored steel, but inside the store geometrically-cut blocks of travertine, Roman stone par excellence, predominate.

The new structure is on two floors: the first is dedicated to the collection for men and to accessories such as shoes, bags and eyewear; the second floor is entirely dedicated to the collection for women and includes an area for furs.

Exhibited at the inaugural evening were some of the works by members of the American Academy of Rome, one of the most internationally-famous centers for art research and classical studies. The artists had to reinterpret the god Janus, for years the symbol of the Italian fashion house and the non-profit-making organization. The collaboration between Fendi and the American Academy of Rome has also led to the creation of the Fendi Rome Prize: a study grant which will allow an emerging stylist in the United States to study for a year at the Academy.
