Eyewear at the Oscars

Eyewear at the Oscars

Move over diamonds, stilettos and evening bags. For the first time, there's another accessory making headlines. According to a new survey of more than 1,500 Americans, eyeglasses were named as the accessory which would most dramatically change the look of a Red Carpet ensemble, followed by a shawl, stilettos and an evening bag.

This survey was conducted by Impulse Research on behalf of LensCrafters. The survey was conducted online with a random sample of 1,503 men and women 30 to 55 across the country.

Survey participants were asked to rate which celebrities would have the most 'spex appeal' on the Red Carpet if they were to wear eyeglasses. Nicole Kidman was the number once female celebrity selected with more than half of respondents making her their choice (51%). Jennifer Garner, Hilary Swank and Scarlett Johansson followed. As a presenter at the Oscar ceremony last year, Ms. Kidman donned a pair of eyeglasses and received widespread acclaim for stepping out in her specs. As for men, George Clooney took the lead for most 'spex appeal' with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx following closely behind and Clive Owen rounding out the top four.

'Glasses have become so much more than a necessity, they are now the must-have accessory. They are the first thing people notice when they look at you, before shoes, jewelry, handbags and gowns so it's no wonder they've moved in fashion status', said Lloyd Boston, fashion and style expert and Chief Style Officer, LensCrafters.
