Certottica databank: 140 new materials inserted

Currently, the Certottica databank contains around 140 materials; 50 were provided by MaterialconneXion which will send in another 80 by end December. The other 90 materials were found by Certottica researchers through an in-depth Internet search, which has allowed them to create a dense network of connections between the institute and other producers of materials throughout the world (about 75).

A data sheet has been created for each material inserted: the information gathered illustrates the mechanical, thermal, optical, chemical-physical, electrical and process characteristics as well as biological compatibility and current applications.

Early December will see the start of eyewear companies visits to encourage new ideas on experimentation, take note of problems and sector requirements, and steer research into materials.

Apart from the physical archive, the databank has also been enriched with a complete window of samples displayed on the walls of the room.
