Harpers' Bazaar launches anti-counterfeiting campaign
The American fashion monthly, Harper's Bazaar, intends to start an anti-counterfeiting campaign to raise reader awareness about the various problems relating to producing and selling counterfeit brands.
In an interview with Women's Wear Daily, the editor of Harper's Bazaar, Valerie Salembier, explained that, contrary to popular belief that the infringement of the law does not actually damage anyone, counterfeiting is in effect based on the exploitation of child labor, and the proceeds finance drug cartels and terrorist organizations.
The campaign will make its official debut in the January number of the magazine in which a special section will provide a detailed account of the damage caused by the fraudulent imitation of branded products. On February 1, in collaboration with the New York City Police Foundation and the Anti-Counterfeiting International Coalition, Harper's Bazaar will organize a summit on counterfeiting against the exclusive backdrop of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Manhattan.
