Counterfeiting: new sequesters at Gioia Tauro for 3 million euros
Investigations continue at the port of Gioia Tauro by the Servizio di Vigilanza Antifrode Doganale (Svad), which has promised to complete yet another series of operations.
The first ended with the impounding of about 4,000 pairs of Nike sports footwear valued at around 350 thousand euros. They were passing through the Calabrian port in a container coming from the Arab Emirates. Confirmation that the brand was counterfeit was given by the company's experts who - although the level of manufacturing of the 'copies' was good - found that they did not correspond to the original models.
The second action saw the confiscation of four containers from China containing around 45,000 bags, with an estimated commercial value of 400 thousand euros, with the expertly counterfeited brand names and figurative elements of Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Burberry, Alviero Martini. The Judicial Authorities charged the owners of the importing company, all Chinese citizens resident in Italy, with importing fake products and receiving.
Lastly, the sequester of about 685,000 pairs of eyeglasses from China with Italy Design printed on them. The value of the goods impounded, including the relevant dues, amounts to around 2,500,000 euros.
The port at Gioia Tauro continues to be the access port for counterfeit goods coming from China. At Gioia Tauro last year, Anfao footed the bill for breaking up and disposing of a number of sunglasses with various labels, all false, impounded in the summer of 2003.
