Vittorio Tabacchi Knighted

On June 2, one of the twenty-five people to receive this honor from the President of the Republic of Italy, was Vittorio Tabacchi, the president of Safilo, whose billings increased under his guidance from 134 to 844 million euros in 2001.

Carlo Azeglio Ciampi signed the decree by which - as proposed by the Minister for Production Activities, Antonio Marzano, together with the Minister of Agricultural and Forestry Policies, Giovanni Alemanno - the 25 new and well-deserved nominees were announced during the anniversary of the Republic. 'It is a custom', President Ciampi stated, 'that marks the continuity of, and appreciation for, the capital of human resources and value on which Italy can continue to depend for its future'.
