UK: Asda Group Extends Area of Business to Optics Sector

Asda Group, the British department store chain owned by the American giant Wal-Mart, is expanding its interests in the 'non-food' area and in the optics sector, in particular.

Last year, in fact, the company dedicated a great deal of its time to recruiting a workforce for the 58 'vision centers' located in its stores. Now Wal-Mart/Asda aim to acquire SafeWay, a groceries chain with about 204 outlets in the UK and which the group intends to transform into a network of shopping centers or department stores.

If the operation is to be successful, it must wait for the approval of the British government, but Asda has let it be known that it has already started work on projects for the creation of the next vision centers.
