Terminator Chooses Sama Eyewear
Not only Matrix. Another non-competing film at the Cannes Festival consolidates the partnership between eyewear and the cinema. This time it's Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines, the third episode in the Made-in-Hollywood science fiction movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and due in Italian cinemas on September 19.
The glasses worn in the feature film by the actor of Austrian origin are produced by the American company Sama Eyewear: based in Los Angeles, the company is also present in Italy with its own shop on Milan's via della Spiga.
'After looking unsuccessfully at hundred of frames', explained April Ferry, the film's costume designer, 'we were delighted at the chance to work with Sheila Vance, Sama Eyewear's designer, to create glasses that were suitable for Arnold'.
The model in question is produced in Japan and comes in four different colors. The frames are made in acetate and when brought up to high temperatures, they adapt to the shape of the face. The streamlined shape was created to facilitate ventilation and the actor's extreme movements during filming.
As well as having a skeleton in beta titanium (to date used only by the aerospace industry) and a zyl coating, the glasses, which are as light as they are strong, are supplied with silicone-injected inserts to help grip and balance.
