Safilo, Requests Four-Day Halt

Safilo has requested a four-day halt for the entire group, the Ronchis facility excluded. The aim is to avoid excessive buildup of stocks at a time of market stagnation, and the risk that goods go out of fashion before they can be sold.The agreement has already been reached with the Filtea-Cgil, Filta-Cisl and Uilta-Uil unions and refers to president Vittorio Tabacchi's entire group.

«There can be no doubt that there are problems in general, we hoped for a recovery, but in order to prevent excess production we will stop for a short time» explained Uil union representative, Paolo Da Lan.At least two days are programmed for this summer (before the summer vacation closure): in a recent meeting between the company and unions, it was agreed to stop on July 11 and 25. The «block» refers only to production departments.

Another two days are envisaged in September, but the real halt in production will depend on the result of further talks between the same parties at the end of July. A recovery and an increase in orders could in fact be possible during that period.
