Police Sunglasses: Beckham Replaced by Clooney in UK

Soccer star David Beckham has lost a 1 million year contract to be the face of Police sunglasses (by De Rigo) to Hollywood heart-throb George Clooney, who has been getting 4,8 million dollar as the face behind the sunglasses in the rest of the world. The Manchester United's midfielder has been promoting the glasses in the UK and Japan: he's said to have demanded a big increase in his weighty pay packet from Police.

'George has a much bigger world profile and appeal than David. We are delighted he will be the face of Police in the UK and Japan as well'. The brand confirmed Beckham will not be appearing in the 2003 adverts, while negotiations are still going on for 2004.

The 27-year-old still has plenty of other lucrative contracts: Adidas, Vodafone, Brylcreem, Mark & Spencer and Pepsi, reputed to be worth 11 million pound (17,6 million dollar).
