Opticians help Doctors of the World

Opticians help Doctors of the World

Created in 2001, the French association, Opticiens du Monde, will install at the Paris headquarters of Médecins du Monde (Doctors of the World, a medical-humanitarian association) an optics laboratory to help people who do not receive health benefits and cannot afford a pair of eyeglasses.

In the meantime, the association's opticians are preparing for the next mission to Madagascar, programmed for summer 2004. After identifying patients' sight defects, Opticiens du Monde prepares made to measure glasses for them: during the mission to Mauritania in May, volunteers saw 1,800 people (including 1,500 children) in 5 days, prepared 250 pairs of eyeglasses and distributed 1,500 pairs of sunglasses.
