Opti München Opens Today

Opti München, the German Optics and Eyewear Exhibition which is held in Munich, opens today and will end on January, 12. The fair will take place in the M.O.C. Centre for the last time in 2003. From 2004 (January 16th-18th) onwards it will be held in the New Munich Trade Fair Centre ('Neue Messe München") in München-Riem that will guarantee a further grow.

Jurgen Meyer, Zentralverband der Augenoptiker Vice-president, declared few days ago that in 2002 the German eyewear industry sales posted a loss of 5%. Meyer made also few remarks about the growing process of 'concentration' in the market: at present, ten major societies detain 12% of the optics turnover and produce about 28% of the total sales. In Germany the optics and eyewear sector involves more than 9.800 companies and 48.000 people.
