Essilor and Optic 2000 help children to read
Not all children find reading easy and sight problems could have something to do with this. A child with sight defects could give up on studying and jeopardize its results at school. It becomes even more difficult to enjoy reading if the words are difficult to make out. Because 'You must see well to enjoy reading', Essilor and the French optics group Optic 2000 have decided to back the 'Lire et faire lire' (Read and be read to) association by giving its active and long-term support to the program.
This is an educational association set up by 130 writers and it is supported by the French Youth, Education and Research Ministry and the Ministry for Culture. 'Read and be read to' also organizes reading sessions where volunteer pensioners make weekly visits to schools during the entire school year; the aim is to stimulate children to enjoy reading and encourage meetings between the generations. The program has already crossed the French border and has been set up in Switzerland and Canada, and it will soon reach other European countries.
In the meantime, there's also immediate and concrete help: for every pair of glasses with Essilor Airwear Junior lenses sold in the 880 stores of the Optic 2000 Group over the next three years, the two companies will each allocate 1 euro to the association.
