Cirillo Marcolin, Reconfirmed as President of Mido, also Takes Office as President of Anfao
A single presidency for Anfao and Mido with the appointment of Cirillo Coffen Marcolin as head of the trade association and the sector's most important fair worldwide: this is what emerged at the end of the General Meeting of Anfao, the association of manufacturers of optical products held yesterday at Certottica's head office at Longarone, and which also decided changes to the Boards of Directors of Anfao and Efop.
The unification of the two presidencies meets a very precise strategic choice that will allow the sector to proceed with the next two years' business programs with greater flexibility and determination. And above all, it is a choice dictated by the approaching conversion of EFOP - the Body set up in 1983 to organize and run Mido - into a one person limited liability company of which ANFAO has become the sole partner.
The new Efop srl will in fact continue to organize the world's most important international fair, but thanks to this conversion it is now a company that can provide a wide range of services for all companies in the segment, widening its sphere of action to the promotion of the eyewear sector also at international level and presenting itself as a valid operational tool that works alongside the Institutions.
During the General Meeting, the new Board of Directors of Efop was also appointed: Cirillo Coffen Marcolin (Marcolin), Arrigo Da Rin (D'Arrigo Moda Italia), Valter Da Rin (Trenti Industria Occhiali), Andrea Mevorach (Visibilia) and Paolo Seminara (Italian Style) - and the Board of Directors of Anfao, with Vice Presidents Callisto Fedon (Fedon), Renato Sopracolle (Occhialeria Sopracolle), Enrico Tormen (Look Occhiali) and Lorenzo Ungaro (Sola Optical) and Directors Michele Aracri (De Rigo), Paolo Baiocchi (Intercast), Elena Berton (Arlecchino), Rodolfo Costan (IOVES), Stefano Larcher (GB Occhialeria), Mario Mella (Luxottica), Cristiano Milone (Mirage), Riccardo Polinelli (Polinelli), Silvio Vercellio Reane (Allison) and Gianni Vetrini (Barberini). Vittorio Tabacchi remains as Past President.
At the end of his term of office, Vittorio Tabacchi - outgoing president of Anfao - decided not to stand again as company business would not allow him to put in the commitment demanded by an institutional role. In view of the strategic integration for improved function synergy, the Board appointed Cirillo Coffen Marcolin as the new president of Anfao, thus unifying the two roles. Already president of Mido for two terms, Marcolin was re-elected for a further two years.
Cirillo Marcolin said he was satisfied 'It is without doubt a sign of esteem and the continuity of association activities. Thanks also to the commitment of my predecessor, with whom I have worked very closely as Vice President, in the last year and a half Anfao has achieved really important results for the entire sector. With the signing of the Sector Agreement between Anfao and the Ministry for Production Activities (the former Ministry of Foreign Trade) in December 2002, the relationship with government authorities has strengthened and they now look with interest at the proposals from our segment and allocate funds for specific promotional activities in the eyewear system and in made-in-Italy. Now I have taken on the dual presidency, I am aware of the responsibilities that await me, but I firmly believe in our Association's work and I am certain that we can achieve new and significant goals'.
On presenting the program for the next two years to the General Meeting, Cirillo Marcolin outlined the strategic direction for Mido 2004 - due in Milan from May 7 through May 10 - and illustrated the projects that have been proposed to the government to obtain funds for sector promotion on foreign markets and for the identification of new commercial areas also through ICE offices and the development of our EyesWay portal.
