Celes Optical, 2002 billings of 12 million euros
Celes Optical, the eyewear frames company founded in 1973 with head office and facility at Pederobba (Treviso), registered billings of 12 million euros in 2002, indicating growth of 20% in the last two years. Much of the merit goes to the license-distribution agreements with Black Flys Eyewear, the American surf and snowboard brand, and North Sails Eyewear, the leading yachting brand, which has also made a name for itself with an important line of sportswear.
The Treviso-based company now has two new projects in the pipeline: the first is for eyewear in very low density metal alloy, which has a low specific weight and high mechanical strength thanks to the use of magnesium- and lithium-based alloys. The second innovation, and one they'll be focusing their efforts on in 2003, is the production of austenitic stainless steel frames (called Ti-like): nickel-free, this material is also corrosion-resistant. Compared to current products, performance is improved by at least 50%, with peaks of 100%.
These products will allow the company to produce frames that are lightweight but stronger than titanium and at extremely competitive prices.
