Silmo Gold 2002 'children's eyewear': Trenti Industria Occhiali does it again
Held last night at the Cité de la science in Paris, the customary Silmo reception was also the occasion of the Silmo Gold 2002 award ceremony, the 'Oscar' for the year's top eyewear creations. Ten categories came under the scrutiny of an international jury of experts and journalists from the specialist press.
To Italy's delight, the 'Children's eyewear' award went for the second year running to Trenti Industria Occhiali, the Perarolo di Cadore-based company that produces frames for sight and sun glasses, but which also boasts a range of models especially designed for children.
The company won the award thanks to its innovative 'No limits' hinge which makes the legs of the Lilliput line particularly flexible, allowing maximum freedom of movement, even for the most inexpert children. Last year Trenti won the Silmo Gold 2001 for the same category, but with a different, equally innovative type: the 'Return Flex 270°'.
The creator of both hinges is the designer, Roberto Cabras, who came up with the best interpretation of Trenti Industria Occhiali's desire to create a collection exclusively for children that catered for their specific needs. It was this intuition that gave rise to the Lilliput line in 1980.
The award was received by Francesca Da Rin, the daughter of the owner of the company, and by Roberto Cabras. A very emotional photo call was accompanied by much applause, especially when the owner of the company, Valter Da Rin, also appeared on stage. The evening ended with a well- deserved celebration.
