NOC Hears that the Nhs Sight Test Has 'Outlived Its Usefulness'

AOP chairman Elisabeth Frost opened this week's National Optometric Conference by attacking the current NHS sight test.
She said: "This year's conference is taking place against a background of discussion which - perhaps not surprisingly in our profession - is generating rather more heat than light". "I want to say - she continued - quite clearly that the AOP believes the route forward for optometry is to recognise that the sight test which was created to meet the conditions of 50 yearsÆ ago has probably now outlived its usefulness as a means to deliver a health-based model for eye care".

The two-day NOC closed yesterday - October 3 - with a series of speeches and discussions including the on GOS sight testing, and a panel discussion on eye examinations and the GOS sight test.
