Goggle Lens Technology Gets more Fashionable
Among the hot trends in winter sports eyewear for 2002-03 are a tilt toward high-fashion appeal, interchangeable lenses and rectangular frame shapes in sunglasses and smaller-sized goggles, according to SnowSports Industries America, the national, not-for-profit trade association that represents ski, snowboard and other winter sports outdoor companies.
Optic Nerve Eyewear vice president Tom Fox says, "The major trends in sunglasses are fashion oriented. As more people use goggles for winter sports activities, the sunglass industry has moved toward a more fashion-based appeal. There will always be more performance eyewear styles than you can count, but there is a definite home for both fashion and performance in this industry.
"We also feel there will be an increase in the number of frames with interchangeable lenses offered for 2002-03," adds Fox.
"Colors are basically the same but the finishes are changing.
More shiny crystals and two-tone gradient frames are appearing along with gradient lenses. There's also an industry wide movement toward more rectangular frame shapes. The industry has been focused on sleek, oval shapes for so long it's only natural to gravitate towards looks with more defined lines and angular shapes."
