A Sneak Preview Of MIDO 2003
The organization of Mido -- the industry's premier International Optics, Optometry and Ophthalmology Exhibition -- is busy gearing up for the next show , to be held in Milan from 2 to 5 May 2003.
In 2002, this Milanese fair repeated its record: a net surface area of more than 49,000 sq.m, 1,302 exhibitors (+3%), 60% of whom from other countries; more than 38,000 visitors, and among these 21,000 from overseas. These results confirm the trend of the previous exhibitions, despite the downturn in the entire international exhibition industry over the past two years and the worsening world economic situation after September 11.
'All international eyewear exhibitions, including those for related industries such as fashion and accessories were impacted by the negative market situation in 2002 - stated Cirillo Marcolin, President of Mido - the consequence of which was a downturn in overseas attendance figures. This notwithstanding, Mido 2002 succeeded in attracting a large number of international buyers, strengthening the results obtained with the previous exhibitions.'
Mido 2003 will open its doors to the eyewear trade from 2 to 5 May at the Fiera di Milano pavilions.
The fact that several exhibitions are scheduled in Milan during the first weekend of May has called for a new exhibition layout where floorspace has been slightly modified: pavilions 13 and 19 will be replaced by pavilion 17. As a result of this new layout, the gross exhibition space will be somewhat smaller, but in any event the exhibition format will be optimized with the possible opening of a third entrance, in addition to those at Porta Scarampo and Porta Carlo Magno.
'A sign of continuity that the presidency of Mido wanted to assure its loyal exhibitors and visitors, by keeping the traditional dates for an appointment that has become a must-see, a mainstay event for leading buyers worldwide ' - said President Cirillo Marcolin stating that, in this specific case, the preferred choice was to change the exhibition layout rather than break with tradition by changing the show schedule.
As part of its careful marketing strategy, Mido aims to offer companies a steady stream of new opportunities for their products in terms of public exposure and promotion.
The hugely popular Mido Trend attracted the top-notch design-setting companies from across the world, and was followed by Mido Tech, a space reserved for cutting-edge technologies and which, inaugurated only last year, hosted a large number of participants.
Mido has tried to narrate the multifaceted world of eyewear, in all its aspects, by expanding the sphere of its activities and staging the 'Taking eyewear seriously' exhibition in team with Milan's internationally renowned La Triennale temple of culture and design.
In this museum space, companies displayed their finest offerings in the area of frames, machinery, lenses, technologies, simply put, the finest production of this industry at international level. Mido, which originated as a B2B appointment for the eyewear trade, has broadened its horizons towards consumers; this is undoubtedly an added valued that the exhibition complex offers companies. Similar initiatives that are scheduled to take place overseas have also been planned.
Mido will also continue to protect and safeguard the secrecy surrounding the new collections being presented at the Milan exhibition for the first time.
Once again this year, there will be a copyright protection service for the products being showcased, by carrying out strict and detailed checks. Any cases of counterfeiting will be referred to a special legal office, and in this way companies will be protected from imitators. The appointment is 7 months from now, on 2 - 5 May 2003, at the Milan exhibition complex.
