Introducing the First World Contact Lens Day: A Tribute to Visionary Innovation

April 15, 2025 marks the launch of an international observance dedicated to a technology that has transformed vision correction.

The World Contact Lens Day will be celebrated for the first time on April 15, 2025, an initiative promoted by Euromcontact and, in Italy, by Assottica Gruppo Contattologia, to highlight an invention that has improved the lives of millions around the globe.

The date was deliberately chosen to coincide with the birth of Leonardo da Vinci, the Renaissance genius who, in 1508, envisioned a concept that laid the groundwork for the development of modern contact lenses—a symbolic figure representing the ability to see beyond the limits of time.

Visual Freedom and Everyday Well-being

Today, contact lenses are an advanced solution for vision correction, offering natural sight, freedom of movement, and greater safety.

“They’re not just a medical device—they’re an ally for quality of life,” says Filippo Pau, President of Assottica.

Ensuring proper use depends greatly on the guidance of vision care professionals.
“Helping patients choose the most suitable lenses means protecting their eye health,” emphasizes Teresio Avitabile (SISO).
Alessandra Balestrazzi (AIMO) notes how “contact lenses have become increasingly sophisticated and accessible, opening new paths to independence and well-being.”
“Supporting this initiative,” adds Andrea Afragoli (Federottica), “means guiding the public toward a conscious and personalized choice.”

A Month of Events to Engage the Public

Throughout the month of April, the World Contact Lens Day will be celebrated across participating optical centers in Italy with fitting sessions, educational events, and dedicated materials. An integrated communication campaign will also run online, featuring informative content and an interactive map to help users locate participating centers.

The World Contact Lens Day is designed as a moment of awareness and education, aimed at strengthening the connection between technology, visual well-being, and quality of life.
