New Elbphilharmonie inaugurated in Hamburg

Last week saw the inauguration in Hamburg of Elbphilharmonie, the spectacular concert hall built by famous architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. Surrounded on three sides by the River Elbe, the complex hosts three concert halls, a large educational space, several bars and restaurants, a hotel and a public piazza with an incomparable panoramic view of the entire city. The new Elbphilarmonie structure – 50 meters high with seating for 2,100 people – stands on the old Kaispeicher A warehouse built in 1966. An exceptional combination of new and old architecture, the project has become a cultural point of reference for the city of Hamburg.
