From October 2014 in Italy, the Aston University degree course

The University's degree course in collaboration with the Istituto Zaccagnini was presented at Mido On Sunday, March 2, the Otticlub conference room at Mido, the international optics exhibition, hosted the presentation of the Aston University, Birmingham, degree course in optometry and clinical practice which will be held in Italy at the Istituto B. Zaccagnini of Bologna.   Course content and method were described to the public present - and to an even larger audience that packed the Istituto Zaccagnini stand in the afternoon - by Dr. Shehzad Naroo, Senior Lecturer at the School of Life & Health Sciences, Aston University, Giorgio Righetti, director of the Vision Sciences Department who will hold the course, and Professor Fabrizio Zeri, the future Executive Dean of the course.   The three-year course will faithfully copy the contents and teaching method of its counterpart in Birmingham. It will be held entirely in English with the support of the Istituto Zaccagnini, which will integrate lectures in optometry with English language refresher courses. On completion of the course, Aston University will present the degree certificates at a ceremony in Birmingham. The study program includes four weeks on campus in the Midlands, where students can work with patients at the University's clinics under the guidance of the School of Optometry professors.   This is the first opportunity in Italy offered to anyone wishing to enter the world of professional optometry and/or research by the main door: the distinguished Anglo-Saxon cultural and professional world where optometry originated.   Anyone interested can contact I.B. Zaccagnini Vision Sciences Department, Via Ghirardini 17, 40141 Bologna, tel. 051480994, fax 051481526, e-mail segreteria@istitutozaccagnini.it and take part in the Open Days: Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and 13; Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18; Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7.
