Autofocus by Vanni presents winners and finalists of the sixth edition
The protagonists are Simone Bubbico, Irene Pittatore, Giorgio Cugno, Silvia Margaria and Matteo Antonini Simone Bubbico won the exhibition section of the 2014 Autofocus contest and will have a solo exhibition at the new Vanni showroom "Baricole" in Turin on November 28. The work displayed at "The Others" is called "La Gabbia, L'Attesa, La Fuga" (2013). The work mixes techniques and different images, plays with vision and uses different levels of optical perception. A narrative and conceptual rendition. The last image is a combination, the superimposition of views, levels and materials in a dimension that is both real and illusory, where sculpture, drawing, mural, collage, shadow and projection are combined. Irene Pittatore won the performance section of the 2014 Autofocus contest. Her debut at The Others will be followed by a new performance of "Ultime Stanze" at 8pm on November 27 in the "Baricole" showroom. She will perform with a real peacock, and symbolic images that express a human being's natural spiritual and anthropological tendency toward vanity, a movement of the soul that can drift toward vacuity. Matteo Antonini is a contest finalist with "I ricordi non son tanti" (2014), an installation revolving around the concept of memories as the multi metamorphoses of reality. The artist reinterprets various versions and views of how memory or the same image can be stopped and interpreted. The installation is a sculpture that re-reflects in the language of drawing and painting its various possible souls like refractions that are always different. Silvia Margaria – also a finalist - mixes temporal levels to create a "collage" where abstracts, inserts or superimpositions are reflections, create bridges, bring the past to the present without losing or dispersing it. An approach that the artist develops especially with regard to memories that are unknown, met by chance, like the slides of old photo stories found in flea markets. She presented her work,"De-Costruzioni", with which she creates conceptual and critical interference in the media communication system through poetry and color. Giorgio Cugno is a video-artist and director who mixes and confuses borders and breaks from the concepts of traditional films from the viewpoint of directing and writing. His work translates reality with a natural, fictional style edited and transformed into iconic and poetic works where he finds veins of surrealism in the heart of daily life. He presented the video Elisa# (2010, 10'): "a day in the woods and an extraordinary meeting with Elisa, a little girl who often plays at identifying with the animals that surround her, a combination of reality and pretense in the reiteration of daily life". This year "The Others" will present the Autofocus Award for Photography. The award will go to an artist of under 35 who presents a photography project. The prize is a one-month solo exhibition in 2015 at the new VANNI eyewear space/gallery in Piazza Carlina, Turin. The exhibition will include a catalog. The Award jury includes Mario Calabresi (editor of La Stampa) – Roberto Koch (photographer, founder of the Contrasto agency) – Roberta Pagani (curator, "The Others" scientific committee).
