W-Eye. Wood for wearing

W-Eye. Wood for wearing

W-eye was created by the hands of Doriano Mattellone in his Ma-wood laboratory deep in the forests of Friuli, and by the pen of Matteo Ragni, industrial designer, researcher into new uses and functions, winner of the Compasso d'Oro Award.

A collection of eyewear “for interiors” that is the outcome of a meeting between the man who touches, sculpts and works the material every day and the man who thinks about it and investigates its limits.

Technology and research characterize every aspect of the collection: two slim but strong sheets of aluminum and a layer of 6 different woods are the essence of this eyewear and give it flexibility, strength and lightness. Every W-eye is hand-finished with care and passion to make it perfectly palpable. The absence of hinges and the flexibility of temples are, first and foremost, a technical approach that contributes to making W-eye lighter (not only on the nose but also at the side of the head) and guarantees that it fits perfectly and is pleasant to wear.

Designed to meet reading needs, the collection investigates the use of eyewear for domestic “interiors” as well as “exterior” eyewear for daily life in a variety of situations.

Wood and aluminum, two very different materials, two different souls like those of the creators of W-eye, for a project based on the meeting and union of two different points of view.
